Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez is setting up a tune up fight with a Colombian boxer to prepare himself for his November 12 rubber match against Manny Pacquiao.
According to a report by Boxingscene.com, Marquez has reached a deal for a July 16 fight against former world champion Likar Ramos, a left-handed boxer just like Pacquiao.
"What we wanted was a left-handed opponent and we got it," he said.
Marquez was supposed to have a tune up fight against former Pacquiao foe, David Diaz. Talks, however, broke down because of money issues.
"The opponent is important, but more important is the ability stay active before November," said Marquez, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion.
The Marquez-Ramos fight will take place in Mexico. Marquez said that although a deal has been reached, they are still finalizing details of the bout.
"We are still negotiating on few things and hopefully we can close something soon," he said.
